Mt.Tokachidake (Mt.Tokachi) 140
Temperature: minus 6 degrees Celsius at the Tokachidake Hot Springs (Tokachidake Onsen).
Before the snow removal, the road was covered with snow of about 30cm. The thick fresh snow played the role of insulation that the road surface temperature was high. So just after the snow removal, the road surface condition wasn’t good. Moreover, winds were less strong than expected. Therefore, it took almost one hour so that the snow surface was completely crusted. But after the congelation, the road was covered with crusted snow or smooth hard ice. So it became perfectly suitable surface for studded tires. As the road surface was good, he climbed 5 times repeating the interval training between 900-1280m of altitude where the road was covered with snow.
